No If yes, identify each such foreign principal and describe in full detail your activities and services: JETRO, NEW YORK: Information was provided on the omnibus trade legislation and.how it might be implemented; the 1988 national elections, with special comments and observations relative to trade, commercial, and economic relations between the U.S. and Japan, and the views of various national candidates on those subjects. General information was provided on Administration policies on Central America, the Middle East, the Soviet Union, South Africa, and the EC. House Ways and Means Committee and Senate Finance Committee staffers were asked periodically on the status of trade legislation. Ther committee staffers as well as staffers to individual members were asked occasion ally for specific information relative to legislation hearings. Commerce Dept., USTR, and State Dept. staffers were asked occaisionally on specific information as necessary to obtain normal and ordinary business-related information and statements. There was no lobbying, advocacy or any attempts to influence legislation or government activity. There was no dissemination of propaganda or self-serving news. EMBASSY OF JAPAN: From information supplied by the Press ans Information Section, the newsletter "News From Japan? was compiled, written, edited, and distributed to about 1500 addresses on irreg- ular schedule, generally about every two weeks. There has been no editorializing or advocacy in the newsletter which is designed to deliver factual information. JAPAN TELESCOPE MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION: General reports on trade related legislation and Con- gressional views on Japan were provided but no lobbying activites took place. lThe term ?foreign principal? includes. in addition to those de?ned in section 1(b) ofthe Act, an individual or organization any ofwhose activities are directly or indirectly supervised. directed. controlled. ?nanced, or subsidized in whole or in major part by a foreign government, foreign political party, foreign organization or foreign individual. (See Rule A registrant who represents more than one foreign principal is required to listin the statements he ?les under the Act only those foreign principals forwhom he is not entitled to claim exemption underSection 3 of the Act. JETRO, NEW YORK: No attempts were made to influence legislation or government policy. JETRB is interested only in collecting normal and ordinary business?related information. EMBASSY OF JAPAN: The newsletter "News From Japan" shows obvious favoritism towards free and open international trade markets, and talks about Japan's actions to maintain free markets around the worldas well as Japan. The articles in the newsletter discuss Japan' interest in increased trade 6. closer economic as well as political ties between the U.S. and Japan, but the articles do not dir- ectly seek to influence U.S. legislation or government policies. JAPAN TELESCOPE MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION: Because duty suspension for telescopes is not likely at present, no lobbying activities took place. Monitoring of trade related legislation continued. 13.
