Have helpers in each center to help children with the activities. Kids can stay in one center or travel to both. Coloring Page Queen Esther A Building the Palace Set Up: Set the blocks in a flat area where the kids can use them to build. Let the kids build with the blocks. Encourage them to build a palace or castle like the one where Queen Esther lived with her uncle and the king. Two wooden blocks Building blocks Blank paper Markers or crayons Coloring Center Provide copies of Coloring Sheet Queen Esther A, blank paper, and markers or crayons for each kid. Be sure to write their name on their drawings before moving to Circle Time. When all kids have arrived and have time to participate in at least one center, clap two blocks together. These blocks are making a sound that tells me it is time to put away the toys and come sit down in the circle area. Let s march to Circle Time together in time with the blocks. Continue to clap the blocks together until all the toys are cleaned up and the kids are in the circle. Circle Time Give each kid a block. We are going to build a tower with these blocks and as each person puts a block on the tower, we are going to say, We re glad you re here,. Make sure each kid gets a turn to add a block. We built a really tall tower. Good job. Now, let s knock our block tower down into the container. Let the kids help gather the blocks and put them in the container. Building blocks Container to hold blocks Crown Preschool Leader Guides, Queen Esther Rotation Leader Guide. Spark Sunday School Queen Esther 167 Our story today is about Queen Esther. Queen Esther was a very nice queen. She loved her family and her friends. She loved her neighbors. We are going to pass this crown around our circle. When it is your turn, put the crown on your head and tell the group something nice you would do for your family, friends, or neighbors if you were a queen like Queen Esther. I ll go first. Share something nice you would do and pass the crown to the next kid. Make sure that everyone gets a turn. Set Up: Use the permanent marker to draw simple happy, sad, angry, frightened, worried faces on the tennis balls. I have a basket full of tennis balls with me. They each show a different feeling. We are going to use these feelings tennis balls to pray. We can each reach in the basket and grab a tennis ball. We are going to thank God for being with us no matter how we are feeling. Let s say something like: Dear God, thank you for being with us when we are happy. Continue around the circle, letting kids pull tennis balls out of the basket. Pray until everyone has a turn. It is okay if some tennis balls are repeated. Tennis balls Permanent marker Basket Open the Bible (10 minutes) Queen Esther Storytelling Esther goes to live with her uncle Mordecai. She grows up in a beautiful palace. Let s practice waving like kings and queens. Show the kids a royal wave. When we talk about a king or queen, let s wave. Wave. Esther learns by watching all the people who live around her. She watches the king. Wave. She watches the other royal people. Wave. Esther grows and grows. She is very wise from watching the king. Wave. She listens to her uncle. She is very beautiful and the king notices. Wave. He wants her to be his wife. Then she will be the queen. Wave. She loves the king. Wave. She is happy to be the queen. Wave. Spark Story Bible Let s settle in and read more about Queen Esther in our Spark Story Bible. There is a lot more to hear about Queen Esther and her uncle Mordecai. Let s give one more royal wave before we get started. Wave. Take out your Spark Story Bible and open to Queen Esther on pages Read the story out loud and point to the corresponding pictures. Look for Squiggles the caterpillar in each picture. Ask kids what they think Squiggles is feeling or doing. Encourage them to make a face or move like Squiggles. 168 Preschool Leader Guides Preschool Leader Guides, Queen Esther Rotation Leader Guide. Spark Sunday School Ask the following questions, allowing time for kids to answer: Where does Esther live? (In a palace) What would you like about being the king or queen? Activate Faith (25 minutes) g a m e: Kings and Queens Relay Set Up: Use masking tape to set the start and finish for the relay. Break up into teams if you wish. We are going to walk like kings or queens in our game today. Let s practice walking with these bean bags on our heads. Do you think I look like a king or a queen? It is not easy to balance things on your heads, is it? I wonder if there are other hard things about being a king or queen. Pass the bean bags around so the kids can practice. Line up with the rest of the people on your team. The first person will walk quickly down to the finish line. If your bean bag falls off your head, just pick it up and keep going. Encourage the kids to cheer for their teammates and for the kids on the other team, too. Try not to emphasize winning or losing. Do encourage silliness, teamwork, and having fun. Bean bags Masking tape a r t: Royal Collage Set Up: Cut the items into small pieces that will work for a collage. Esther was a queen. What color do we think of when we think of kings and queens? We think of purple. Hand each kid paper. Let them choose some items to attach to their collage. Choose some of these things to make a purple collage. I think the color purple is beautiful, don t you? We can remember Queen Esther when we look at our purple collage. Arrange all the things on the purple paper. Move them around until you like the way everything looks. You can choose more things if you would like. Use the glue and glue sticks to attach the purple things to your paper. Purple construction paper Glue Glue sticks Any purple items that can be attached to the paper such as tissue paper, buttons, floral foil, wrapping paper, ribbon, yarn, lace, fabric, rick rack, any other scraps that are purple Preschool Leader Guides, Queen Esther Rotation Leader Guide.
