OUNTAIN  H ILLS  P RESBYTERIAN  C HURCH   I N  T OUCH   Fountain Hills, AZ March 2017   Rev. Bill Good, Pastor FHPC VISION & MISSION STATEMENTS Our Vision: Our Mission : Living God’s love.  calls us to . . . Reach out to all with faith and love. The Lenten Journey: Walking to Jerusalem “  If any want to become my follow-ers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. (Lk 9:23) No doubt about it. . . done faithfully and experienced fully, Lent is a demanding time in the life of a Christian. It draws us beyond the endearing stories of star-struck Wiseman and starlit babies into a harsher, more demanding tale. It calls us to a pilgrimage where each of us ends up shouldering a cross and walking in the footsteps of Jesus. No wonder we find these to be 40 hard days! But here’s the pay-off: at the Easter end of it all, this Jesus after whom we stagger becomes our RISEN Lord. Poet Anne Weems provides much-needed perspective: Join with the FHPC family as we “intensify our living unto Christ.” Pick up a copy of Tim Smith’s devotional offering, “Beside Still Waters”, and spend time alone in prayer and reflection. Participate in our Vespers services each Wednes-day evening at 6pm and find encouragement in the quiet, intimate fellowship of other pilgrims. And, of course, don’t miss Sunday morning worship as we gather to praise, to pray, and to explore what a heart-broken Jesus meant as “the things that make for peace”  (Lk. 19:41). May this be the year you find a “fresh new taste of God,” A LONG-AWAITED DAY OF CELEBRATION – Pastor Ken’s Service of Ordination Recognizing Pastor Ken’s well-established gifts and skills for ministry, ECO’s Presbytery of the West invites you to join in a special service of worship Or-daining and Installing him as Associate Pastor here at FHPC. The service will be hosted by Rev. Dr. MJ Romano, Interim Moderator of the Presbytery, and will be held in our Sanctu-ary on Sunday , March 19 th  at 4pm . A reception follows in our Fellowship Center. PER CAPITA 2017 Please see the article about per Capita on page 4 from your Finance Committee. LENT Lent is a time to take the time to let the power of our faith story take hold of us, a time to let the events get up and walk around in us, a time to intensify our living unto Christ, a time to hover over the thoughts of our hearts, a time to place our feet in the streets of Jerusalem or to walk along the sea and listen to his word, a time to touch his robe and feel the healing surge through us, a time to ponder and a time to wonder… Lent is a time to allow a fresh new taste of God!   In Touch  page 2   On the Inside: Bill Good, Pastor .. .. . … .. .. … . … .. .. .. . . .. .. .. .. Who knew the Fal-cons would collapse at the very end. Food donations favored Atlanta 154 pieces to 83 for New England. But the real win-ner was EHFB. And after Art Spalding delivered the food on Monday, he reported the fol-lowing: “ Delivery is complete. When I greeted the Food Bank volunteer, he immediately asked if the delivery was from a church. I told him it was from the Presbyte- rian Church. He said: I wondered when you would get here. That Church always provides more help than any other church in Fountain Hills.” The annual Feed The Kidz food packing party will occur on Thursday, March 9 th  at the Community Center between 5:30 pm until about 7:30 pm. Food For Kidz is an international charity that provides nutritious, high protein packets to under-privileged children both locally and worldwide. The food packed will go to Extended Hands, AZ Brain Food, Native American ministries in Phoenix that serve homeless veterans and native Americans, and internationally, our contribution will go to Somalia. We plan to pack 80,000 meals in the two hours. The Mission Committee is requesting that 14 FHPC members volunteer with other churches at this event. Please e-mail Jack Reynolds @  jhrtheoswork@aol.com or Terri Schmidt @ tschmidt@cox.net to sign up.   In Touch  page (   Mission Minis)*    Jack Reynolds, Elder Blankets Plus Mission Project – Barbara and Gary Oakeson will be presenting a Minute for Mission on Feb. 26 announcing Blanket Sunday on March 5. This will be the 20 th  year for FHPC to offer our annual appeal for blankets and support for this initiative spon-sored by Church World Ser-vices. Susan Titus reported that a fundraiser offered by Funds2orgs, an organization that purchases shoes in any condition and pays the collecting organization will be dis-cussed with two other partners – the DAR and the local Elks Club. It has been determined that the collection effort solely by FHPC would be overwhelming. Elder Jack and Susan Titus will meet the other orgs. to work out the logis-tics. In the meantime, all shoes donated to the rummage sale will be collected to start this project. Based on results of future discussions, this could become a community-wide project. PER CAPITA 2017 Quite a few folks have inquired about forwarding Per Capita payments for this year now that we are an ECO church. So, here’s your answer. . . While our new denomination doesn’t have a “per capita” system  per se , as an ECO church we have agreed to pay an amount equal to 1% of our annual budget in support of the work of the denomination. If you divide this amount by the number of our “covenant partners” (members), it amounts to approxi-mately $20 apiece, a considerable reduction from the $31 we previously paid to PC(USA). In the past, we have asked that family members voluntarily underwrite this cost so that it doesn’t adversely impact our budget and ministries. Not surprisingly, many of you have chosen to do just that and have forwarded your payment to FHPC each year. We recognize this as just another example of the wonderful generosity of our family. If you feel that this is a way in which you’d like to continue to support our ministries here on this hilltop, we would appre-ciate it if you would kindly forward payment through the Sunday collection plate or directly to the office at your earliest conven-ience. Please write “per capita” on the memo line so we can recognize your intentions. With gratitude for your grace, Your Finance Committee
