: In this paper, the working of bidirectional inverter with buck/boost MPPT system for PV application is described!idirectional inverter is essential for the power flow control between dc bus and ac grid lso bidirectional inverter isused for the regulation of dc bus voltage within certain range of voltage lso , as the PV array voltage variesaccording to the irradiation , cell temperature etc MPPT is analysed using buck boost converter to e#tract ma#imumavailable power from PV array This also reduces the voltage stress on the inverter connected across it Thecomparison between the conventional method and the proposed method is also presented $inally the simulationresults for the proposed method is presented The primary aims of the proposal are as follows: India is struggling with the problem of providing access to energy services. In rural India, more than 44 per cent of the households lack basic access to electricity. Rising demand for energy in the developing world has given rise to two mainchallenges for the power sector––the addition of new generation capacity and expansion of the current transmission anddistribution infrastructure. Decentralied generation has the potential to solve both these issues, particularly in remote areas.Decentralied Distributed !enerators are used to develop a mini#grid$. % &ini#grid$ is an isolated, low#voltage distribution grid, providing electricity to a community – typically avillage or very small town. It is normally supplied by one source of electricity, e.g. diesel generators, a solar '( installation,a micro#hydro station etc., or a combination of the above. %mong various renewable energy resources solar is more attractive being abundant, safe, free of cost and eco#friendly. In solar based mini grid system, '( module converts the light energy into low D) voltage D) with relatively lowconversion efficiency. *o convert low voltage D) source into suitable %) source, Inverters are used. )onventionally inverter topologies such as voltage source inverter +(I- and the current source inverter +)I- are used, but these topologies havelimitations like, higher harmonic distortion, high dvdt / didt stress across the semiconductor power switch, high power losses due to high switching fre0uency, need of transformer to step up the voltage level.  This pro%ect aims to develop an efficient modular multilevel inverter based photo&voltaic mini grid systemwhich generates high 'uality ( voltage from the solar irradiation which can be used for rural electrification of villages, street lights, water pumps for drinking water, and basic household electrification Ma%or advantages includelow investment for compact village, pollution free, and use of abundantly available resource, less maintenancere'uirement etc The proposed modular multilevel inverter for mini grid offers advantages as: ã 1ower total harmonic distortion 2*3D, which will eliminate filtering re0uirements reducing the cost of the system also reduces si)e of inverter&filter module ã  1ow dvdt stress lowering the switch voltage and power rating, well suited for high power medium voltage applications, overcome the need of transformers . ã Reduced *otal 3armonic Distortion, so 'uality of the supply is improved ã Reduction in *3D decreases the losses , so efficiency of the system gets increased .   1ess heating of the power electronic switches due to less switching loss, so failure rate of the converters gets reduced   During extension of power rating, only the submodules need to be added with the existing inverter. *o, MM( based solar power mini grid can be e#tended to +igh power grid with lesser cost ã Decrease in *3D in output voltage also improves the performance  of the motor, lights, water pumps connected to the load side which in turn reduces power consumption .*hus the proposed &&) based mini grid system has more advantages than conventional inverter based mini gridin terms of 0uality, cost and future expansion. *- .
