Week of April 22, 2012 Lessons for the Leader Do you enjoy spending time with friends? The disciples spent time together. On this occasion, the men chose to fish. Read to discover the fishing story they got to tell. Read John 21:1. What did Jesus do in this verse? Jesus appeared a third time. Do you make appearances at church besides teaching the preschoolers? Are your appearances meaningful and purposeful? Read John 21:2-3. The disciples fished from a boat. Imagine the frustration they had when they worked so long and yielded no results. Do you sometimes feel as if you are not making a difference with your teaching? Read John 21:4-8. The men obeyed without knowing who was giving them directions. They listened and obeyed. Do you listen and take action when someone gives you advice? Sometimes God uses someone we would not expect to help us. The men pulled in a huge amount of fish. Imagine their astonishment. Consider how they felt when they realized it was Jesus on the shore. The men were seeing Jesus again. Their friend was alive and talking to them. Read John 21:9-14. Jesus knew the men's needs and supplied them. What needs do you have? Do you trust Jesus to supply your needs? How will you convey to the preschoolers that Jesus meets their needs? Read John 21: Jesus questioned Peter's love three times. Do you ever question God's love for you? Do your actions or words make people question your love or loyalty to God? Let the preschoolers and other leaders see and hear that you love God. What do these symbols mean? 1aApplication Activities Format: Follow the numbers with arrows for a 30-minute, large group plus 20-minute Application Activities format. 1 Follow all the numbers for a 45- to 60-minute large group only format. Some of the disciples went with him. The men got in the boat to fish. The disciples fished all night, but did not catch any fish. When the sun came up, a man stood on the shore. The disciples did not know it was Jesus. Jesus asked the disciples if they had caught any fish. The disciples said no. Jesus told the men to Page 2 of 21 throw the net on the right side of the boat. The disciples obeyed. The disciples caught so many fish they were unable to pull the net back into the boat! One of the disciples recognized the man as Jesus. The disciple told Peter it was Jesus. Peter jumped into the water and swam to shore. The other disciples rowed the boat to shore, dragging the net full of fish. Even though the net was so full, it did not tear. With Jesus' help, the disciples caught 153 large fish. When the men got to shore, they saw a fire, bread, and fish. Jesus invited the men to eat. Jesus gave the men hot bread and fish to eat. This was the third time Jesus had appeared after His death. After the men ate, Jesus asked Peter three times if he loved Him. Three times Peter told Jesus yes. Jesus told Peter to tell other people about Him. 9aReview the Bible Story (4 minutes) Scissors Print Teaching Picture 8 Jesus Helped (CD). Print Review Fish (CD). Cut apart.
