  2.1 INTRODUCTION In this chapter, health care, health care industry, Indian health care industry, growth of Indian health care industry, organizational profile etc. are detailing  2.2 HEALTH CARE Health care is the maintenance or improvement of health via the diagnosis, treatment, and  prevention of disease, illness, injury, and other   physical and mental impairments in human  beings. Health care is conventionally regarded as an important determinant in promoting thegeneral physical and mental health and well-being of people around the world. It includes the work done in providing  primary care, secondary care, and tertiary care, as well as in  public health. Access to health care varies across countries, groups, and individuals, largely influenced by social and economic conditions as well as the health policies in place. ountries and jurisdictions have different policies and plans in relation to the personal and population-basedhealth care goals within their societies. Health care systems are organizations established to meetthe health needs of target populations. !heir e act configuration varies between national and sub-national entities. In some countries and jurisdictions, health care planning is distributed amongmarket participants, whereas in others, planning occurs more centrally among governments or other coordinating bodies. In all cases, according to the #orld Health $rganization %#H$&, awell-functioning health care system re'uires a robust financing mechanism( a well-trained andade'uately-paid workforce( reliable information on which to base decisions and  policies( and well maintained health facilities and logistics to deliver 'uality medicines and technologies. 2.3 HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY !he health care industry incorporates several sectors that are dedicated to providinghealth care services and products. It is a segment inside the economy which offers drugs,medicines and other services for patients with preventive, healing, rehabilitative, and soothingcare. !hus we can say that health care services comprise the grouping of tangible and intangiblefacet where intangible features dominates the tangible aspects. )ooms, beds and other decors areincluded in tangible things. !he different forms of services related to health and welfare are provided by healthcare industry. !he current industry is divided into many subdivisions, and 6  governed with various interdisciplinary teams of skilled professionals and paraprofessionals tocater the health needs of individuals Segments of Healthcae !n #st$ !he healthcare industry consists of eight segments. !hese are* Hos%!tals * Hospitals are of utmost important among them. Hospitals deliver complete medical carefacilities, begins with diagnoses to surgical treatments, or to continuous nursing facilities.+everal hospitals are there having specialization in treating and handling mentally sick patientsor in cancer patients or some are in treating children. !hese facilities are provided either on anoutpatient or inpatient basis. !he combination of professionals re'uired by hospitals variesaccording to geographical locations, size or capital structure of the organizations or on the basisof values, goals and management philosophies. As soon as organization strives towardsefficiencies, facilities start to move towards outpatient basis from inpatient basis. Off!ces of Health &act!t!ones * !he section comprises the offices of optometrists, podiatrists, chiropractors, occupational and physical therapists, psychologists, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, dietitians, andother health practitioners. !he demand of these services is somewhere related to the ability of  payment of healthcare consumer either directly or through insurance. !he segment also coversthe offices of practitioners of alternate medicine, such as homeopaths, hypnotherapists,acupuncturists and naturopaths.
