Application information and selection criteria To apply for the scholarship, each applicant must write a 2,500 word essay on a topic determined by Aon Benfield and ANZIIF. The 2017 topic: Lifetime Insurance A revolution, or a step too far? General insurance products are bought and sold on an annual basis necessitating an annual revision of pricing, coverage (i.e. underwriting). Even life insurance products have an annually renewable component to them. Does the increasing availability of more data and insight mean that we could transform the insurance product to insure an individual for their whole life not just for their assets at any one point in time? For instance, develop a product that protects an Insured for every part of their life as they mature (e.g. buying a car, buying a house, having a family, buying a business) on an obligatory basis subject to certain preagreed criteria. Is lifetime coverage viable in the foreseeable future, or would the industry s need for constant disclosure and our arbitrary annual view of risk make such a product a pipedream? What data insights and/or mindset changes would be required for a genuine Cradle to Grave policy to become a reality? Further information & application requirements How is the essay marked by the judges? The essay will be marked on the applicant s: Ability to support the essay with evidence and examples, wherever possible. Coherency and communication of ideas and information. The awarding of the scholarship will also take into account: Communication skills. Demonstrated performance in the insurance industry. A commitment to the achievement of qualifications and/or study of the insurance industry. The ability to develop, maintain and leverage relationships and build leadership skills in the industry. The ability to contribute skills and knowledge gained through the program for the benefit of the insurance industry in Australia and/or New Zealand. Judging panel The recipient of the Aon Benfield Scholarship will be decided by a panel of judges. The judging panel will assess the applicant s submission based on the given criteria and oversee the award process.
